Modern Liberia was founded in 1822 by freed African-Americans, who were repatriated from the United States under the guidance of the American Colonization Society. Liberia declared its independence in 1847 and celebrated its 160th anniversary in 2007. Boe believes that now is the time for each and every Liberian to fill their hearts and minds with positive patriotism -- anchored by love for God, love for themselves as Liberians, love for Liberia and love for fellow Liberians. This he refers to as a “Vision for Positive Patriotism.”
Miracle on the Atlantic Coast implores Liberians to embark on building a new foundation for their beloved republic, since the foundation that was built in 1822 has been destroyed. Boe strongly believes that Liberians must use their abundant natural resources such as gold, diamonds, iron ore, rubber and timber not against each other, but in collaboration with one another to build a prosperous country for themselves and posterity.
Throughout the book, Boe lays out strategies on how Liberians can protect, unify and professionally manage the country; marshal and develop Liberia’s human and financial capital and natural resources; build new inclusive permanent functional institutions; eliminate corruption; create jobs for the 85 percent of Liberians that are currently unemployed; and bring about the rapid economic and social development of Liberia.
As part of the reconciliation process proposed in the book, the author recognizes and suggests that through legislative enactments, Africans must officially apologize to African-Americans for Africa’s role in slavery as the first genuine step to reconciliation between the two groups. In addition, he urges Africans to open the doors to African-Americans to benefit from the vast material wealth of Africa by granting them dual citizenship. In turn, Africans will benefit from the transfer of knowledge and technology by African-Americans.
Miracle on the Atlantic Coast offers practical strategies and step-by-step guides that will make the new “Vision” a reality, in order to lift Liberia out of its deep valley of poverty. With God’s help and the hard work of Liberians, Boe believes that Liberians can turn Liberia to prosperity in less than 20 years. Boe is currently an attorney and counselor-at-law. This is his first book. For more information please visit www.pnateboe.com.
